Protostar AI

Terms of Service

Effective date: 2026-09-23

These terms govern your use of the protostarai.com website and, if you are a customer, the Protostar Secure AI Gateway (the “Service”) provided by Protostar AI, LLC (“Protostar”, “we”, “us”). By using the website or the Service you agree to these terms. If you are using the Service on behalf of an organization, you confirm you are authorized to bind it.

Where a written agreement between Protostar and your organization says something different, the written agreement controls.

1. The Service

The Service is a privacy gateway that sits between your application and AI models. It classifies content by sensitivity, replaces detected personal identifiers before content leaves a secure boundary, routes requests to models according to policy, restores identifiers inside the boundary, and records a tamper-evident audit. How data is handled is described in our Privacy Policy, which forms part of these terms.

2. Accounts and API keys

Access is through API keys issued to your organization. You are responsible for keeping keys confidential and for all activity under them. Keys can be revoked at any time from the console or the API. Tell us promptly at hello@protostarai.com if you believe a key has been compromised.

3. Your data

You own the content you send through the Service and any output returned to you. You grant Protostar only the limited right to process that content as needed to provide the Service. We do not use your content to train or improve any model, and we do not retain it after a request completes, as described in the Privacy Policy.

Data classification is shared responsibility. The Service classifies content automatically and lets your application declare a class. A declaration can only raise sensitivity. If your application handles regulated data such as protected health information, you should declare class C1 so that the content is pinned to the self-hosted model regardless of what automated detection finds. Automated detection is designed to favour recall, but no detector is perfect.

Protected health information requires a Business Associate Agreement between your organization and Protostar before any such data is sent through the Service.

4. Acceptable use

You agree not to use the Service to:

We may suspend access that we reasonably believe violates these terms, and will tell you why.

5. AI output

Output from AI models is generated automatically and may be wrong, incomplete, or invented, even when it looks confident. The Service flags certain suspected fabrications but does not remove them. You are responsible for reviewing output before relying on it or acting on it. Output is not medical, legal, financial, or other professional advice, and the Service does not replace the judgment of a qualified professional. Where the Service rewrites outbound text for privacy reasons, that rewriting preserves specific token classes but is not a guarantee of semantic equivalence; review remains your responsibility.

6. Availability and support

The Service is provided without a service-level agreement unless one is set out in a written agreement. Measured performance characteristics are published in our documentation and are descriptions of the current deployment, not commitments. We aim to give notice of planned maintenance and material changes.

7. Fees

Fees, if any, are set out in your written agreement or order. Usage figures shown in the console are estimates for your information and are not themselves an invoice; billing is on the terms of your agreement.

8. Term, cancellation, and termination

You may stop using the Service and cancel your account at any time by revoking your keys or by emailing hello@protostarai.com; we will confirm in writing. Cancelling is never harder than signing up. We may terminate for material breach that is not cured within 30 days of notice, or immediately for serious misuse. On termination your keys are revoked and your tenant records are handled as described in the Privacy Policy. Sections 3, 5, 9, 10, and 11 survive termination.

If the Service ever offers automatically renewing paid plans, we will state the renewal terms clearly before you subscribe, remind you before each renewal, and let you cancel online in the same place you subscribed.

9. Intellectual property

Protostar owns the Service, its software, and its documentation. These terms do not transfer any of that to you. Feedback you give us may be used without obligation.

10. Disclaimers and limitation of liability

The Service is provided “as is” and “as available”. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Protostar disclaims all warranties, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, and Protostar’s total liability arising out of these terms or the Service is limited to the fees you paid to Protostar in the twelve months before the claim. Protostar is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law. Obligations concerning protected health information are governed by the applicable Business Associate Agreement.

11. General

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Florida, without regard to conflict of law rules, and disputes will be brought in the courts located there. If any part of these terms is unenforceable, the rest remains in effect. These terms, the Privacy Policy, and any written agreement between us are the entire agreement. We may update these terms; material changes will be sent to the account contact and the effective date above will change.
